Ford C-Max - The Next Minivan

By the end of this year, Pacifico Marple Ford in the Philadelphia area will introduce 2013's Ford C-Max - taking its place among a famous line of minivans and small utility vehicles. With both hybrid and plug-in electric variants available, Ford is getting ready to revolutionize the family hauler. These vehicles represent Ford's first stand alone hybrids, not hybrid versions of existing models.

Underneath the hoods, a 2-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine powers both vehicles. Combined with  electric motors, each produces 185 horsepower. The C-max Energi also receives a battery pack that is capable of powering it for more than 15 miles, before gas kicks in to keep the van moving.

John Davis, chief engineer of C-Max, said the hybrid "would approach 45 miles a gallon in combined driving. The plug-in Energi?recharges in about 3.5 hours on an optional 240-volt home charger - a 120-volt charger is standard issue."1
